The iomega StorCenter ix2-200 Cloud Edition specs are located.HERE. so there is little point in me detailing all of the items. Personally I've found the iomega StorCenter ix-200 Cloud Edition very easy to configure and very easy to use. When all files are extracted, ix2-200 will copy those files into the hard drive and those files will be your Cloud Edition OS. After about 5 minutes when this process is done, ix2-200 will shut itself down. Remove the USB Flash Drive, plug in the network cable and press the power button in front of the device.

Performance and Benchmarks
The Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive Cloud Edition uses either a single 1TB or a single 2TB hard drive for storage. You can also add additional USB hard drives or USB flash drives to the Home Media Network Hard Drive via the USB ports on the device. The Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive Cloud Edition is rated at a theoretical maximum of 1000Mb (megabits) transfer rate on a 1GB network which equates to 125MB (megabytes) per second. However, we’ve never seen a NAS in our office that can completely saturate a network connection, so don’t anticipate read or write speeds in excess of 100 MB/s.
The old Iomega StorCenter ix2-200 turned out to be one of the fastest consumer-grade NAS devices we’ve seen in our lab, so we had high hopes for the Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive. We use the Atto benchmark in our lab to determine the maximum read and write speeds for a NAS. Below you can see the average read and write times for the Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive along with the StorCenter ix2-200 over a standard 1000Mb network connection compared to other NAS devices.
NAS read performance via wired Gigabit Ethernet connection (Longer bars indicate better performance)
NAS write performance via wired Gigabit Ethernet connection (Longer bars indicate better performance)
In short, the new Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive Cloud Edition delivered roughly the same read and write speeds as the StorCenter ix2-200. As it stands, this NAS provides faster transfer speeds than what you’ll get from a cheap generic USB 2.0 flash drive connected directly to your computer’s USB port … provided that the NAS is connected over a 1000Mb network switch.
Of course, you should expect a range of slower speeds if you’re using a NAS over an internet connection where your NAS sends files via your ISP to another computer accessing files over the web. There are many variables that impact file sharing speeds over the internet, and our lab benchmarks simply indicate the best case scenario when accessing a NAS in your office over a wired LAN connection. There were times when we accessed files on the Iomega Personal Cloud via the web when the maximum read speed was less than 10 MB/s and the maximum write speed was limited to a meager 3.55 MB/s.
Operational Noise
One of our chief complaints about most NAS enclosures is that they are annoyingly loud. In some cases, a NAS uses low-cost, low-quality hard drives that make loud clicking noises and in other cases the NAS has a cheap cooling fan that constantly hums and whirs. Thankfully, the new Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive Cloud Edition is extremely quiet during heavy operation and almost silent while idle.
Conclusion
The Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive Cloud Edition is a solid Network Attached Storage device that is easy to use and lets almost anyone setup a “personal cloud” for sharing files with friends, family and co-workers. It’s pretty obvious that Iomega’s target audience for this device is consumers who want the security of knowing where their files are being stored, but also want the convenience of “cloud” storage that can be accessed by anyone with an internet connection.
In that sense, Iomega knocked one out of the park with the Home Media Network Hard Drive Cloud Edition. My only complaints are that it isn’t particularly intuitive to send invite emails in order to let people access the Personal Cloud and I prefer NAS enclosures that allow you to remove the internal hard drive. If you can live with those relatively minor annoyances then the Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive Cloud Edition is a great addition to your home network.
Pros:
- Reasonably fast on local network
- Easy-to-use interface
- Runs cool and quiet
Cons:
- Not user-serviceable
- Adding authorized users a little complex
